obey for obama

found on serif, shepard fairey has created limited edition obama 08 prints. i'm not surprised by the endorsement, but am loving the poster & the next generation of candidate support. here's what shepard has to say on his website:

i believe with great conviction that barack obama should be the next president. i have been paying close attention to him since the democratic convention in 2004. i feel that he is more a statesman than a politician. he was against the war when it was an unpopular position (and hillary was for the war at that time), obama is for energy and environmental conservation. he is for healthcare reform. check him out for yourself www.barackobama.com. proceeds from this print go to produce prints for a large statewide poster campaign. thanks. - shepard

fader podcast

i read my first fader magazine back in my college days when my brother would give me his old issues. i remember being confused & intrigued by this crazy mix of indie & hip hop, fashion & music, street & commercial. a few years later i'm falling in love with their podcast & browsing the full issue pdfs available online. the podcast is out of control; i've had the last year downloaded for a couple months, but haven't listened to them until today. artists worth noting from the #51:

emily jane white
jovi rockwell
grand ole party

feist does it again

first, this is my favorite song off the reminder album. i think they did such a great job capturing the emotion, playfulness & energy in this song. every time i hear it i want to get up & dance, now i want to run around with pyrotechnics going off around me in the middle of the woods.

this makes me miss my girls & the sohn's cabin. i want to run around & be silly with you all. i feel it all!

thanks for sending the link justin.

library of congress flickr

i just found the library of congress's flickr page via quipsologies. the photos are well tagged, have very limited copyright restrictions & are large enough to print a high quality 5" x 7" reprint. i particularly liked the women tagged photos. surprise.

i've been house & dogsitting for the last two weeks, which makes it hard for me to get many projects done. i have a couple projects in the works for the minute i go back to my humble one bedroom apartment on the hill.

1960s braun inspire mac goods

i really wasn't that surprised by this, but it is interesting to see the similarities, both subtle & extreme.

the year 2008 marks the 10th anniversary of the imac, the computer that changed everything at apple, hailing a new design era spearheaded by design genius jonathan ive. what most people don't know is that there's another man whose products are at the heart of ive's design philosophy, an influence that permeates every single product at apple, from hardware to user-interface design.

etsy-love

i just found this new blog via decor8. etsy-love covers everything from the blogger's finds to store ownership tips & ideas. blogger, nicole, writes:

as an etsy user i am continuously surprised by how many people have yet to learn about etsy. in this blog i strive to write about recently listed and featured items, showcase new and interesting designers and upcoming locations. i want to do items comparisons using the etsy color and tag features. i want to look at top sellers and trends. i also want to see who else is blogging about etsy, what they are saying and what they think is cool. i hope to create a place where people can come and learn more about the things that are being handmade.

hills have eyes - aiga panel

i just registered for the aiga sponsored panel discussion & interview, hills have eyes at evo gallery. i can't tell you how excited i am to attend; snowboarding culture & design! i have been fantasizing about someday starting a line in the very arena & have been very inspired by the work of spacecraft (of which, stefan hofmann, will be speaking). i feel lucky to be in seattle & so close to this small but highly influential corner of the design world.

fabric stitched notecards

i decided to make stationary sets for my friends this holiday season & will also be selling them on my etsy site. i thought i would share the oh-so-simple process with you.

what you need:
80 lb card stock (8.5 x 11)
size a2 envelopes
printer
small amount of any lightweight fabric
rotary cutter & matte
sewing machine

instructions:
1. using whatever program you prefer, set up an 8.5" by 11" landscape file to print. each sheet fits two cards with .25" margins. *see template below
2. print the desired amount of cards
3. cut each in half (2 - 5.5" x. 8.5" cards) do not fold until indicated
4. cut the desired amount of fabric. for my cards, pieces were anywhere from 1" x 1" to 2" x 3".
5. position the fabric on the front of the card
6. using a smaller width needle for your sewing machine begin a zig zag stitch, half on the fabric, half off
7. lift the foot of your sewing machine at each corner to turn the card in order to stitch the next side
8. carefully pull the card from under the raised needle & trim the thread as close to the card as possible
9. fold card stock in half to create a 5.5" by 4.25" single fold notecard

helpful tips
1. use a thread that matches the paper
2. use a single stitch around the entire fabric piece
3. to package the set, stack envelopes & cards in a pile, wrap the set with a paper stick & close with a sticker of glue stick
