I got the idea from a friend that wanted to make herself one and never has. I have been saving corks for her for along time so I had plenty. I am using all kinds of different containers to make them, but I like the idea of the steel and I to might get creative and do alittle painting on it to customize it for a certain decore in a friends house. I have 6 done now, this idea will be my 7th. I have made 3 of these as presents. Find a frame with a solid back like masonite, or cut some plywood to fill in the back. A skinny frame works best. This avoids the cutting the corks problem.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-402053833011484938.post-11002137561812080712008-11-10T10:04:00.000-08:002008-11-10T10:04:00.000-08:00This is such a great idea for leftover corks! The hexagons wouldn't come out even. I ended up cutting some corks length wise and sewing them together in a heringbone pattern to make a trivet...it turned out pretty good. It took about 3.5 hours and one bottle of vino.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-402053833011484938.post-70041959657295513682008-04-23T10:20:00.000-07:002008-04-23T10:20:00.000-07:00I wonder if an "automatic knife" like the one my g...I wonder if an "automatic knife" like the one my grandparents used to cut a turkey when they got older would work well for this project. You could use tongs to hold the cork to avoid any potential finger damage.

Or, you could use a table saw.
