i've always loved rag rugs - they remind me of the cottage at fife lake. it takes me to standing in the kitchen sporting a sopping wet bathing suit, looking for that big ol' bag of chips to take to the beach. they feel like summer under my feet.
craft passion has a great tutorial here. i'm about to run down to value village & pick up some old sheets.
see these? they are my weekend project, alongside an ikea trip & dining chair hunting. craftynest has a wonderful tutorial & i'm super pumped to give this (seemingly messy, but easy) tutorial a shot.
this week was hectic, but here i am with a few minutes to catch up (sigh). i love all of these great vintage finds from the best things. great finds from right near where i grew up in michigan.
via craft:, ps i made this. i think this is such a great idea for custom vases & bookshelf acoutrement. found object, puffy paint & spray paint. done. there are a ton of ideas & projects over at ps i made this, definitely check the whole blog out.
artists & designers nicholas anderson and julie ho are working under the studio, confetti system. they have an amazing portofolio of colorful installations as well as a selection of necklaces, pinatas & blindfolds.
taken from there website, "the system is a collection of objects born from simple materials. tissue paper, cardboard, and silk are transformed into interactive objects that create a point of focus where memories can be made and a spontaneous collaboration between themselves and the viewer is sparked. confetti system occupies the space that exists between the ephemeral and the permanent and aims to evoke a sense of nostalgia and lighthearted fun."
if i could do stockholm over (which i hope to some day), i would stay here. the story hotel seems to be the perfect combination of new & vintage, bohemian chic if you will. tucked away in ostermalm, this spot is filled with art, spaces for mingling & dining. i want to go to there.
we stopped into great stuff during the georgetown artwalk & a night of stellar pizza & 9lb hammer drinks. store owner & good hunter extraordinaire, kirk, was more than happy to chat us up & make sure we gave the nice mannequin a squeeze. each item feels hand picked, serves as a great conversation starter & seems like a possibility for whimsy in any home.
check out last march's write up from decorno (obviously hipper to the scene than me).
i'm back to making my house (apt) a home. some things have changed in planning a bit. we're thinking about getting a large table for the front room that can double as a work space & an entertainment spot. maybe we'll pair it with a cozy chair & side table. i'm also looking for a small cabinet or dresser for dvd storage - something similar to the above. highboy dresser, $60 & this lusty teak dining table, $900.
i need to find a solution to my home work station. i like the idea of doing something white & modern with vintage, mid century style storage solutions. if i go with something darker, i'm not sure what i'll do for complimenting pieces. i found the parson's desk at west elm for $299, but i'm hoping for a better bargain than that. i also like a few from crate & barrel, but wonder how sturdy they will be - antenna desk, $199, loop desk, $199 & the puzzle desk, $149. i also found this nice tip from apartment therapy - ikea countertops instead?
do you have any good ideas where i can find something like those above for $250 or under? how about work station inspiration pics, wanna share?
there are things i like about moving. in addition to making a home with a wonderful man, i get to start fresh & move into a blank canvas. last week i shared my mood board for the new place & this week i'm giving you the space as we received it. the apartment is wonderful - lots of light, high ceilings, a balcony, awww the pics do the work.
i'm going to do some postings of our progress, although we've vowed to take our time decorating & making any big purchases. our goods are moved in, but boxes are still flooding the floors - more pics later this week or early next.
i'm getting geared up, up & away. here is the first round of inspiration gathering for the new apartment (click here for the full size collage & zooming).
only at anthropologie do i spend as much time admiring the displays as i do the clothes & housewares. i'm still convinced that i could live there full time.
