found art - 2 ply parachutes

2 ply parachutes
i can usually fall asleep as soon as i put my head on the pillow & close my eyes. last night i found myself lying there with the windows open, my head spinning with feelings of anxiety and heart ache. bart has been out of town for just a few days, but i'm missing him like crazy. i'm not usually one to mush, but here we go...

he decided to take a year for himself just 5 short months ago. after years of a hectic work environment & personal struggles with his hands, it was time for him to fall back in love with art. he wanted to feel like an artist again - feel the joy & passion of storytelling.

like most artists, he'll respond to compliments humbly, but i think his talents are unlike anything i've seen. i miss you b. xo

check out 2 ply parachutes for a peek into his brain.

aspire

paper planes from dawn ng
while discussing an upcoming project, a friend used the phrase, "something to aspire to." the word is something i think of most days since then.

to hope or dream; to have an ambitious plan or a lofty goal. to have a great ambition or ultimate goal; desire strongly.

to soar.

found tool - vi.sualize.us

anthony lister
a chat over the weekend had me thinking about tools that would prove beneficial to me. the only thing i could think of that google hasn't already taken care of is an easy way to bookmark images. i currently right-click to save all images to my desktop then upload them to picasa libraries. this seems to work for the most part, but how great would it be to just save the thumbnail, then source and tag each image. well kids, it exists via we heart it, ffffound!, and vi.sualize.us (a great review of each here). ffffound! is invite only, boo. we heart it seems a little community intimidating. vi.sualize.us is a plug-in that allows you to right-click & add images to your library, sweet! i'm sold friends - you can check out my collection here.

amanda wachob's work has me thinking of tattoos in a whole new way. her style is unlike anything else i've seen - such a feminine hand with vibrant colors. i'm about to hop on a plane to new york & let her have her way with me.

my sunny sunday was spent flipping through the latest hi-fructose (along with rework, a great book from a good friend, highly recommended). there was a feature on jeremy geddes - swoon. his work feels so mysterious - his subjects really do seem to be floating.

found project - small victories

boooooom small victories
booooooom's project #10 is called small victories - a photographic project. it looks super fun & i may have to submit a few photos (like this one).

"Small Victories is a photographic celebration of the everyday! A collection of 4×6 prints of the quietly beautiful, unintentionally funny, people and things all around us. I believe it is these little moments that make life worth living. This project will culminate in a photo show at Above Second gallery in Hong Kong, in May."

today i'm gushing over the artwork of henri de toulouse-lautrec. i love the broad strokes & colors; this is a style that i've really grown to love as bart has introduced me to more & more. i've always loved bart's sketches, often done on a mid-tone base focusing on highlights & shadows. these make me think of him.

etsy wednesday - le coeur humain

i'd love to do a series of these in the bathroom or maybe the hearts in the bedroom. le coeur humain has a wonderful collection of vintage medical prints - don't you think they'd look quite lovely hanging by a silver binder clip?
