out at steven's

there are a few dominant reasons that i like winter...tights, comfort food & snowboarding. after riding on the same board since my freshman year in high school (bear in mind my four years of college only saw one to three trips to the hills a season & this is in mi, not much reason for new gear) i decided to get new equipment. i have had a royal blue sno con hoodie from my brother since i started riding; it was naturally my only retail option. i bought 32 boots and a rome board & bindings. i love them, i never knew that feet could stay warm & comfortable while snowboarding.

i made it up to stevens pass the last two saturdays and couldn't be happier (although the second trip was probably my most worthless performance in years). the first weekend we went up not knowing what conditions would be and ended up spending the day in 32 degree weather, light snow & fresh powder. yippy! the second weekend was after a huge storm, stevens was operating on diesel & generators...but they had gotten a ton of snow and had to open. the snow was pretty heavy & like i stated earlier...it was a rough day for me. but, i'm glad to have two days under my belt this early in the season and am anticipating many more days at stevens & the trip to utah!

i also have to say that mcdonald's has been an all too frequent saturday dining experience.

deck the halls

gnarls barkley were among others...jet, my chemical romance & the shins at the deck the hall ball concert at key arena thursday, dec 7. the biggest pull was definitely gnarls barkley. it starts with cee-lo, before this i admired him mostly for sky high with goodie mob and in da wind with trick daddy (trick love the kids). and then we have dangermouse...he had me at grey album, but ghetto pop life with jemini confirmed my love. when i saw the crazy video for the first time, i could hardly contain myself. not only is their music different and fun, but their whole approach to the collaboration was done with a stroke of genius. they came with humor, creativity & talent...from publicity photos & album art to the way they tour (dressed as the cast from austin powers at the deck the hall ball in seattle). you can find photos of cee-lo & dangermouse dressed as cheech & chong, napolean & pedro, wayne & garth and much more.

detroit is both

we were out celebrating a mutual friend's year long trip to mexico and central america...when these two showed up in these shirts. bear in mind there was no "detroit" theme, just genuine love for the city.

scared of santa?

on boing boing, yet again today, i was happy to find a whole collection of children with fears similar to my own. my personal fears extend way beyond santa; the list includes clowns, easter bunnies...really anything that includes a mask or someone dressed up as something else where the costume hides most of the person's face or body. the first time i was openly frightened by this was honky the clown at the 4th of july parade in ludington, mi. he irked me, he made my stomach turn & i felt that i should run for my own safety. now it's a never ending joke (with family & friends) that involves lots of pushing, prodding & yelling when near something dressed up. maybe it's less of a fear and more of a strong desire to avoid. i often wonder how many people feel this way, is it unreasonable? people have fears of many things, like chickens (alektorophobia) or bowel movements (defecalosesiophobia)...why not people dressed up as things, especially santas!
